Arlene Meyers

Arlene May Meyers, 74, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Indiana University Health LaPorte Hospital. She was born November 24, 1936 in LaPorte, Indiana, the daughter of Charles E. Kirkham and Edith (Freese) Kirkham. Arlene worked as a head cook for LeMan's Academy for nineteen years, retiring in 1989, she also worked at Rush Hour Foods for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church of Rolling Prairie, Sunshine Circle and AARP and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Arlene enjoyed reading, collecting lighthouses, and going to sporting events. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On June 5, 1955, in Rolling Prairie, IN, she married Oren W. Meyers who survives. She is also survived by her two daughters - Barbara (Guy) Hart of Hudson Lake, IN, Linda Pointon of La Porte, IN; two sons - Leon (Lynne) Meyers of Hudson Lake, IN, Jim (Mary) Meyers of Union Mills, IN; two brothers - Wayne Kirkham of Rolling Prairie, IN, Terry Kirkham of La Porte, IN; nine grandchildren - Robert Hart, Christopher Hart, Candice Dickinson, Joshua Meyers, Eric Pointon, Tyler Meyers, T.J. Meyers, Ali Meyers, Rebekah Meyers; eleven great grandchildren, Jacqueline Scarborough, Jacob Bright, Makenzie Scarborough, Makayla Scarborough, Oliva Pierro, Liliana Pierro, Jackson Hart, Alayna Dickinson, Breawnna Hart, Connor Meyers, and Riley Pointon. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Ronald Kirkham, Robert Kirkham, Charles Kirkham, Jr., Jack Kirkham, and two sisters, Phyllis Richardson, Dorothy Annabelle Kirkham. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 and Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 9:00 am until time of services. Services will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 10:00 am with Rev. Ransom Ebersole and Rev. Ron Devenport, officiating. Interment will follow at the Rolling Prairie Cemetery, Rolling Prairie, IN.
