Billy Koehn

Billy R. Koehn, 74, of LaPorte, IN, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011 at his home. He was born June 27, 1936 in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of Alfred Koehn and Ella (Schroeder) Koehn. Billy had worked for Mid-West Steel for twenty-five years, retiring in 1986. He was Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Fighter for thirty-five years, and was a member of the Moose Lodge. Billy enjoyed fishing and camping, he was a NASCAR fan. When he was younger, he enjoyed racing go karts. On May 27, 1955, in LaPorte, IN, he married Mary Hagle Koehn who preceded in death October 31, 1998. He is survived by his two sons - Tom (Cathy) Koehn of Mill Creek, IN, Bob (Laura) Koehn of La Porte, IN; daughter - Cindy (Dave) VanAsdall of La Porte, IN; six grandchildren, Michael, Ashley Katlyn, Kelsey, Carrie, and Cristie; two great-grandchildren - Austin and Baylie; sister - Dorothy Newton of AR. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter, Patricia Koehn, one grandson, Ryan VanAsdall, three brothers, Larry, Clair, and John Koehn, two sisters, Sally Hyatte, and Irene Koehn. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Sunday, April 10, 2011 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Monday, April 11, 2011 9:00 am, until time of services. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Monday April 11, 2011 at 11:00 am with Rev. Jeff Zigler officiating. Interment will follow at the Salem Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
