Durlen Dillman

Durlen "Dale" Dillman, 85 of Kingsford Heights, IN, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011 at his home. He was born April 7, 1926 in Flora, Illinois, the son of Claude Dillman and Ora (Salters) Dillman. Durlen had lived in the LaPorte Co. area for 60 years, coming Flora, Illinois. Durlen retired after working fifteen years as a sergeant/locksmith for the Indiana State Prison, he had also worked at Tibmas Bakery. He was a member of Faith Fellowship Church of God and was a US Navy Veteran during WWII. He enjoyed woodworking, and bird watching. Durlen was a volunteer with the prison ministries. He helped build and was a founding member of the Weslyn Church of Kingsford Heights. On January 10, 1944, in Flora, Illinois, he married Betty L. (Smith) Dillman who survives. He is also survived by his daughter - Diane (Timothy) Beadles of Kingsford Heights, IN.,eight grandchildren - Angela (Robert) Dawson, Melissa Pointon, Michelle (John) Pugh, Tonya Kleine, Ginger Weliver, Laura (Brad) Martin, Shannon (Dave) Dawson, Christopher Beadles; twenty-one great-grandchildren; nine great great-grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; two step great great-grandchildren; sister - Carolyn Dillman of Flora, IL; brother - Bill Dillman of Carmi, IL. Durlen was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Durlene Schieman, sister, Thelma Douthit, brother, John Dillman. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. There will be no visitation. A Graveside Service will be held at Union Mills Cemetery, Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 9:00 am, with Rev. Jesse Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Union Mills Cemetery, Union Mills, IN.
