Merlin E. Hoeppner August 27, 1924-January 16, 2014 Mr. Merlin E. Hoeppner, 89, of La Porte, Indiana, died Thursday January 16, 2014 at Settlers House in La Porte, IN. He was born August 27, 1924 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Edward W. Hoeppner and Thelma (Mueller) Hoeppner. Merlin worked for thirty-three years at American Rubber, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, and was a US Army Veteran during WWII. He is survived by his 3 sons - Frank (Kathleen Wells) Hoeppner of Villages, FL, Jerry Hoeppner of Marrietta, GA, and James Platt of La Porte, IN. Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, son, Wayne Hoeppner, brother, Donald H. Hoeppner, and sister, Marjorie Kueker. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN A Graveside Service will be held at Tracy Cemetery, Monday January 20, 2014 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ronald Brauer, officiating. Interment will follow at the Tracy Cemetery, Hamlet, Indiana. A Military Service will be conducted by the V.F.W. and American Legion Honor Guard at the cemetery.
