Richard Lashua

Richard L. Lashua January 1, 1940-November 20, 2016 Mr. Richard L. Lashua, 76, of Kingsford Heights, Indiana, entered into eternal peace Sunday, November 20, 2016 at home with family surrounding him. He desires for all who knew him to celebrate his life as he chose to - with plenty of laughter and on purpose. He was born January 1, 1940 in Wabash, Indiana to Charles M. and Opal A. (Gump) Lashua. As a boy, he attended Hanna United Methodist Church where he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized. On June 10, 1961 he married the love of his life, Kay F. (Smith) Lashua who survives. Together they would build a devoted marriage, a house, a home, a family, and a beautiful life! The legacy they built on a foundation of unconditional love began when Kay's brother Ralph introduced them and continued throughout Richard's battle with cancer. Many knew Richard as Lash, Dick, Rich, and his cowboy friends knew him as Left Eye Lash. Those who knew him best called him Husband, Dad, and Grandpa Rich. He will be missed by all, but he left us all with many great values and memories. Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Jim) Wingett, Marcia (Bob) Bisconti, Leslie (JR) Francis, and his son, Wayne (Tish) Lashua. He was blessed with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Derrick Lashua, Rachel (Mike, Lucas, and Owen) Otwinowski, Lorin (Suelen) Hickman, Jimmy (Tina) Wingett, Emily Hickman, Kaitlyn (Cam, Vivien) Kendall, Gregory Francis, Caroline Francis, Briana Baker, Adeline Lashua, Justine Lashua, and Kellen Lashua. He is also survived by a sister Joyce (Joe) Dickson and family, a nephew Jeff (DeeAnne) Lashua and family, the Smith Brother's; Ernie (Betty), Ralph (Susie), Gary and their families, as well as many close friends. Richard was a proud member of the NRA, SASS, IHMSA, NIHMSA, SAM, VHA, AOPA, EAA, and the Hanna, Indiana Alumni Association. He enjoyed flying his plane and often offered to take his friends, family, and acquaintances for rides. He was a diehard Cubs fan. He enjoyed hunting and other outdoor activities. He enjoyed working with his hands as a skilled maintenance employee for 28 years with Howmet Corporation before retiring in 2003. He enjoyed his work and co-workers so much that he returned as a part-time tech the following year and into 2007. He was preceded in death by his brother George Lashua at birth, his brother and best friend Jerry Lashua, his parents, and one grandson / hunting buddy Derrick Lashua. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave, LaPorte, Indiana where family will receive friends Friday, November 25, 2016, 3:00pm - 7:00pm and Saturday, November 26, 2016 from 10:00am.
