Richard Murphy

Richard A. Murphy of LaPorte, passed away following a long illness at 9:03 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2011, at University Indiana Health LaPorte Hospital He was born July 31, 1943 in Mather, PA., to Patrick and Agnes (Connor) Murphy. He was married to Donna (Hilliard) Murphy, who survives, and had just celebrated 44 years of marriage. Richard was retired from ArcelorMittal Steel. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Jefferson, PA. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era in Okinawa, Japan. Richard was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed. Also surviving are one daughter, Pamela Kay Murphy of LaPorte; two brothers, William Murphy of Rices Landing, PA. and George Murphy (Nancy) of Jefferson, PA.; one sister, Judy Shaffer of Jefferson, PA.; six grandchildren, Kevin Lee Arlen Murphy (Sarah), Christina Marie Cooper, Katarina C. Cooper, Corey Matthew Wayne Cooper, Stephen Rose and Zachary Cooper; and one great-grandchild, Sophia Christeen Murphy. Preceding in death were his father, Patrick, mother, Agnes, four brothers, Patrick Jr., John, James and Charles; and two sisters, Kathryn Gordon and Gwen Peyton and Gwen, and one daughter, Deborah Lynn (Murphy) Cooper. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home 602 Maple Ave. LaPorte, IN. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Friday, April 8, 2011 at 10:30 am with Pastor Jo Ellyn Chadwick, officiating. A Military Service will be conducted at the cemetery by the LaPorte Honor Guard. Cremation will take place. Burial of Ashes will follow in the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
