Richard Strieter

God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb He gently closed his loving eyes, and whispered- "Peace be thine" The weary hours, the days of pain, The sleepless nights have passed The ever patient worn out frame Has found sweet peace at last! Richard Martin Strieter was born March 11, 1927, in Oak Park, Illinois to Adolph W. Strieter and Ethel Mae (Kiff) Strieter. Richard completed eight years of education at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran School. Richard's high school education was interrupted by his service in the United States Army. He finally received a diploma from LaPorte High School in 1947. Richard enlisted in the Army in 1945 during World War II. Motor Sergeant Strieter was in charge of the motor pool. He was responsible for the care and maintenance of all vehicles in the motor pool. He was in charge of 100 men, responsible for 65 vehicles and drove heavy vehicles of all types. He received a WW II Victory Medal and was Honorably Discharged from the US Army in 1946. On June 7, 1947, Richard Strieter was married to Pauline Godsey who preceded him in death. They had one daughter, Diana and one son, Richard ‘Sarge'. Richard worked in the family business, Strieter's Sales and Service for a number of years. He also worked as a sales distributor for Power Equipment Company. He later returned to his work at Strieter's until it closed. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pauline, his parents and several siblings. Richard is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Diana and John Gunnell of Indianapolis; son, Richard ‘Sarge' Strieter of LaPorte, and two grandchildren, Baret and Ava Strieter of LaPorte. He is also survived by one brother, Adolph ‘Skip' Strieter, three sisters Pearl Wingstrom, Doris Hucksted and Patricia Storrer, and many nieces and nephews. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved the outdoors; especially the water. He loved to hunt and fish and he loved his dogs. He shared his love for the water, the outdoors, and gardening with his children and grandchildren.
