Robert Price

Robert K. Price, 84, of Nappanee, IN (formerly of LaPorte), died at home of natural causes associated with old age, Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Robert was born September 13, 1926, in Chicago, IL, the son of Larkin and Loleta (Brody) Price. He had two sisters, Enid and Geraldine. He married Linda Allen who preceded him in death. He is survived by one son, David (Sue) Price and two grandchildren, Keith and Kiley Price. A La Port-ian for about 50 years, he had worked at Clark Equipment of Michigan City and is retired from the City of LaPorte sewage treatment plant. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy during WW II. He had attended Purdue University. In LaPorte County, Robert is best known as "Bicycle Bob" because he gave up driving automobiles 40+ years ago and chose to lead a public life of humble community service. He rode his bicycle in LaPorte County picking up trash and recyclables. He enjoyed talking with people (and could easily out talk most of them). Robert took great pleasure playing his harmonica for anyone who would care to listen. "Riding a bicycle does have advantages. I can still jump and click by heels together". Robert said at age 83. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. A Memorial Service will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday April 16, 2011 at 1:00 PM with Rev.
