Roger A. Singleton December 22, 1937-June 5, 2015 Mr. Roger A. Singleton, 77, of La Porte, Indiana, died Friday June 5, 2015 at Golden Living Center Fountainview. He was born December 22, 1937 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Russell L. Singleton and Goldie M. (Thorndyke) Singleton. Roger graduated from LaPorte High School in 1957 and attended IU Bloomington in 1958. He was a member of the LaPorte Rotary Club, Roger held all offices within Masonic Lodge #41 F and A, Past Master Counselor Order of De Molays. Participated in the following: Cub Scout Troop # 390, Boy Scout Troop # 39, LaPorte Jaycees from 1958-1972 and held following postions - Regional V.P., Regional Director, Secretary of Indiana Jaycees, Ambassador of Exchange program in Jamaica, Ancient accepted Scottish Rite - Valley of South Bend, received "Sagamore of the Wabash" from Dr. Otis Bowen. Roger served 20 years as a State employee retiring in January of 2005. He was a Scipio Township Advisory Board Member, Scipio Township Trustee, elected LaPorte County Republican Chairman 05/1978-05/1998. Elected 20 of 23 offices in 1978 and elected 1St Sheriff of LaPorte County in 20 years. Helped in the Election of Richard Luger, State Senator and John Hiler, Congressman. In 1983 he had President Nixon speak at The LaPorte Holiday Inn as a County Fund Raiser. Participated in the Election of County Offices, City Offices, State Offices, Mayors and Governors. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of LaPorte. Roger enjoyed playing high school sports, and loved to read. In May of 1992 he married Cindy (Torres) Singleton who survives. In February of 1963 he married Marjorie Magnuson. He is also survived by his two sons, Rodney A. (Kim) Singleton of Lake Tomahawk WI, Jeremy Torres of La Porte, IN, and daughter, Amy (Chris) James of La Porte, IN; five grandchildren, Sophie, Blake, Emiela, Christopher, and Hope; one sister, Elizabeth Habdas of Rolling Prairie, IN. Roger was preceded in death by his parents Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Sunday, June 7. 2015 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Monday, June 8, 2015 from 4:00 pm, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home on Monday, June 8, 2015, at 5:00 pm, with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Cremation will take place.
