Ruth H. Birkenfeld May 6, 1919-July 29, 2013 Mrs. Ruth H. "Sis" Birkenfeld, 94, of La Porte, Indiana, died Monday July 29, 2013 at Golden Living Center Fountainview in LaPorte, IN. She was born May 6, 1919 in Rolling Prairie, Indiana, the daughter of Charles A Hunt and Neva (Dunifon) Hunt. Ruth left Rolling Prairie at the age of 21 years old to move to Baltimore, Maryland, to work for the newly formed Social Security office. In 1975 at 56 years old, she retired to Fort Myers, Florida until 2010, when she moved back to LaPorte, Indiana. Ruth enjoyed reading, sewing and crafts. On August 30, 1941, in Baltimore, MD, she married Theodore M. Birkenfeld who preceded her in death May 6, 1996. She is survived by her; 6 nephews - Charles Hunt, William J. Hunt, Curt Hunt, Kevin Hunt, Chris Hunt, Greg Hunt; 4 nieces - Wanda Rice, Susan Hunt, Patricia Toth, Lori Miller. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 5 brothers, Rex Hunt, Albert "Bill" William Hunt, Robert "Dean" Hunt, Lincoln "Tim" Hunt, brother, Zane "Joe" Hunt and niece, Nancy Hunt. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 10:00 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday August 1, 2013 at 11:00 am with Rev. Ransom Ebersole officiating. Interment will follow at the Rolling Prairie Cemetery, Rolling Prairie, Indiana.
