Vera Nelson

Vera Lucille Nelson March 22, 1928-August 31, 2014 Mrs. Vera Lucille Nelson, 86, of La Porte, Indiana, died Sunday August 31, 2014 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. She was born March 22, 1928 in Union Mills, Indiana, the daughter of Louis Hundt and Sophia (Langman) Hundt. Vera worked in the house keeping department of La Porte Hospital for 11 years and retired in 1982. After her retirement she volunteered with the hospital auxiliary for an additional 21 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, and the LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary. Vera enjoyed her flower garden and working in the yard. She loved spending time with her family and volunteering at the hospital. On November 25, 1950, in La Porte, IN, she married Cecil E. Nelson who preceded in death November 26, 1982. She is survived by her two daughters, Diane (Roger) Speakman of La Porte, IN, Darlene Contreras of La Porte, IN; two sons, David (Patricia) Nelson of La Porte, IN, Donald (Penny) Nelson of La Porte, IN; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and a sister, Gladys Wallace of Medford, OR. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Dorothy Seitz, grandaughter, Lillian Rose Nelson, son-in-law, Angel Contreras, seven brothers and two sisters. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, September 5, 2014 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 9:00 am until time of the service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday September 6, 2014 at 10:00 am with Rev. Ronald A. Brauer officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
