Violet Ryan

Violet M. Ryan October 23, 1925-February 14, 2014 Violet M. Ryan, 88, of Union Mills, Indiana, died Friday February 14, 2014 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. Violet was born to the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Martin) Madura, on October 23, 1925 in Hammond, Indiana. Violet graduated from Union Mills High School. Violet worked at Kaiser Aluminum until she retired in 1986. Violet had a passion to be outdoors and was well known in the community for the llamas she raised. She was proud to take her llamas to various state shows and won multiple grand champions until her passing. Violet leaves behind her beloved 9 llamas and dog, Taco. On August 31, 1946, she married Earl Ryan who preceded her in death. Violet is survived by two sons: Elwyn (Tiny) Ryan and wife Teri of Union Mills, Mike Ryan and wife Pat of Union Mills. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Tim Ryan of LaPorte, Todd Ryan and fiancée Laila of Union Mills, Troy Ryan and wife Leslie of Union Mills, Jennifer Jimenez and husband Martin of Union Mills, Mike Ryan and wife Casey of Union Mills, and Mark Ryan and wife Becky of Union Mills. She was also blessed with 11 great grandchildren: Brittney, Nick, Jordyn, Chloe, Baylee, Lincoln, Nolan, Owen, Jackie, Molly, and Garrett that often referred to her as llama Grandma. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers: Robert Madura and John Madura. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, February 17, 2014 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Tuesday, February 18, 2014 12:30 pm, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday February 18, 2014 at 1:30 pm with Deacon Dale Walsh, officiating. Interment will follow at the Union Mills Cemetery, Union Mills, Indiana. Violet was a life-long member of The American Legion Auxiliary Post 295.
