Virginia Stevens

Virginia L. Stevens, 92, of LaPorte, IN, passed away on Monday June 20, 2011 at Golden Living Center Fountainview in LaPorte. She was born September 14, 1918 in Findlay, Illinois, the daughter of Daniel Rose and Reta (Wright) Rose. Virginia had been the principal of Hailman Elementary School, retiring from LaPorte Community Schools. She was a member of First Christian Church of LaPorte, National Elementary Principals Assoc., Past President of AAUW, Delta Kappa Gamma, National Teacher's Assoc., Master Gardener with the Terra Verda Garden Club, Indiana Assoc. of Retired Teachers, Virginia had received her BS Degree from University of Indianapolis, and MS Degree from Northwestern University. On August 12, 1963, in Rochester, IN, she married Delbert D.Stevens who preceded her in death December 6, 2010. She is survived by her seven nephews - Thomas (Nancy) Rose, Roger (Sandy) Rose, Carl (Karen) Rose, Barry (Christina) Rose, Robert (Mary) Rose, Scott (Laura) Barlag; nephew by marriage - Scott (Laura) Barlag; four nieces - Rachel (Rick) Rose Wyatt, Paula (James) Rose Black, Susan (Tom) Rose Smith, Debra (Dale) Rose Hamilton; sister-in-law - Roberta Stevens Barlag.. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 1:00 pm, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home on, Saturday June 25, 2011 at 2:00 pm with Rev.Carl Rose officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, IN.
