Willis Smith

Willis "Woody" Harold Smith, 84, of La Porte, IN, passed away, Friday, May 27, 2011 at his home. He was born January 23, 1927 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Fred L. Smith and Mildred (Mayer) Smith. Willis worked as a machine carver for thirty-four years at Kingsley Furniture, retiring 1989. Willis enjoyed woodworking and drawing. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. On May 11, 1948, in Knox, Indiana, he married Dorothy (Messman) Smith who survives. He is also survived by his three sons - Dennis (Barbara) Smith of Westville, IN, James (Londa) Smith of La Porte, IN, Mark (Bonnie) Smith of Fish Lake, IN; three grandchildren - Bryan (Shannon) Smith, Jennifer Smith, and Michelle Smith; three great-grandchildren Allison Smith, Hannah Smith, and Madison Curry, and several nieces and nephews. Willis was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sheila Smith, two brothers, Raymond F. Smith, John F. Smith. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Monday, May 30, 2011 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Tuesday, May 31, 2011 12:00 pm, until time of services. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday May 31, 2011 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Dorothy Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, IN.
