Andrew John Bern, 49, passed away on Monday, October 27th.
Andrew was a kind soul who never knew a stranger. He was considerate and had the biggest heart. He would always lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it and would give you the shirt off his back.
Andrew was born on April 12th, 1976, at Memorial Hospital in St. Joseph, Michigan. Andrew and his family moved to La Porte, Indiana where he was raised with his sister. He graduated from La Porte High School. During his school years he took part in 4-H where he showed his pony, Demon, and his cat. He was also very passionate about art, writing, and music. He was active in band where he played the drums and took percussion lessons that continued throughout his adult life as well.
After graduation he worked for several years in culinary at Heston Bar and Bit of Swiss Bakery. His true passion was cars both import and domestic. Andrew had a keen eye for his personal vehicles. He loved his rims, window tint, and buffing his car to a high shine. That is when he started as a detailer at All Star Autos. He learned the ropes before moving to Portland, Oregon where he took a position as a Parts and Detail Manager for an import car company where he worked for 10 years. After 10 years in Portland, Andrew moved back to LaPorte to be closer to family. He resumed working at All Star Autos again in the Detail Manager position where he worked until he passed.
Andrew had several hobbies he enjoyed. He loved fishing, he loved music and had a vast record collection. Andrew also had many artistic talents he was proud of. He wrote music, he created unique drawings and works of art, he also authored short stories and poetry. He loved fishing and campfires and riding his side-by-side around his parents’ property.
The most important thing to Andrew was his family. From the time he was young he cherished annual family ski trips to Crystal Mountain. He loved family holidays, dinners, weddings, and getting together for birthdays. He never missed an event to support his family or close friends. He loved road trips, cooking, making the gravy for Thanksgiving, attending Cubs games, Chicago Bulls games, and relishing his get togethers he talked about for months.
Andrew John was a man of faith. He was baptized and believed in God and was daily in prayer. He especially loved Saint Jude. He was always comforted knowing there was a higher power looking out for him.
Andrew is loved and survived by his parents Connie and Barry Younggreen, his sister Amy (Tony) Ferrell, his nephews Nicholas and Bradley Ferrell, his Grandmother Joann Reitz and his Aunt Shirley Crowly and many aunts, uncles, and cousins and friends that felt like family.
