Bernice Akers

Mrs. Bernice M. Akers, 82, of 0441 W. CR 1000 N., LaPorte, In., died Wednesday April 14, 2004, at 11:59 a.m. at the LaPorte Hospital. She was born May 6, 1921, in Chicago, IL., to Gustav and Louise Rubin Fischer, and had lived in the LaPorte area since 1955 coming from Valparaiso, IN. Mrs. Akers was a homemaker. She attended the Galena Baptist Church, where she taught Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed gardening, birds and crocheting. On June 22, 1940 in Crown Paint, IN. she married Robert L. Akers who preceded in death October 23, 1990. Also preceded in death are her parents. Surviving are one son, Jerry Betty Walker of Somers, MT.; one daughter Mrs. Linda Jim Wolfe of Gravette Ark.; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister Mrs. Dorothy Barker of Demotte, IN.; and one brother Mr. Jacob Edith Fischer of Wheatfield, IN. The funeral will be Saturday April 17, 2004, at 10:00 AM at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. Floyd Wilcox officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. Sat. until time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Demotte Cemetery, Demotte, IN.
