Betty J. Jones

Betty J. Jones, age 92, of LaPorte, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Northwest Health in LaPorte, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of love, service, family, and adventure.

Betty was born on February 14, 1934, in Petersburg, Indiana, to the late Daniel and Lola (Johnson) Luke. On August 9, 1952, she married the love of her life, Ralph H. Jones, in South Bend, Indiana. Together, Betty and Ralph built a beautiful life centered around family, faith, and countless cherished memories. They shared more than 59 years of marriage before Ralph preceded her in death in December of 2011.

Above all else, Betty was devoted to her family. As a homemaker and the mother of seven children, she poured her heart into creating a loving and welcoming home. Her greatest joy was caring for those she loved, and as her family grew through the generations, so did the abundance of love she had to give. She delighted in being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, proudly watching her family grow to include 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. To Betty, family was everything, and few things brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by the generations she helped nurture.

Betty also possessed a generous heart and a deep commitment to serving her community. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in LaPorte and devoted many years to the Camp Fire Girls, serving as a leader and as a member of its board. She also volunteered for many years with the LaPorte Hospital Lion’s Alert, generously giving her time in service to others.

Her dedication to veterans and their families was an especially important part of Betty's life. For more than 50 years, she volunteered with the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of the LaPorte County 8 and 40. Through decades of involvement, Betty demonstrated an enduring spirit of patriotism, service, and fellowship.

Betty found happiness in many of life's simple pleasures. She enjoyed ceramics and lovingly collected lighthouses, angel figurines, hummingbirds, and lilies. She and Ralph treasured their time camping together and especially enjoyed making memories while traveling with their family.

Travel was truly one of Betty's greatest passions. With an adventurous spirit and a genuine curiosity about the world, she traveled to all 50 states and visited many of the nation's great National Parks. Her adventures took her far beyond the familiar, including the unforgettable experience of backpacking through Europe with her son. Whether exploring a new destination, camping with those she loved, or setting out on another journey, Betty embraced the opportunity to experience all that life had to offer.

Betty is survived by her children, Bryan Jones (Janice), Kenneth Jones (Amy), Kathy S. Hill (Dan), and Karen Heaps (Chris); daughters-in-law, Shelly Jones and Deborah Jones; sister, Dorothy Luke; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Lola Luke; her beloved husband, Ralph H. Jones; sons, Ralph G. Jones and Glenn Jones; daughter, Denise McKay; son-in-law, Pete McKay; one daughter-in-law, Amy; and brothers, Chester Lake, Daniel Luke and Jerry Luke.

Funeral services for Betty will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services in LaPorte. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will immediately follow at Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte. The VFW will be hosting a luncheon immediately following the committal ceremony at 181 W. McClung Rd., LaPorte, IN 46350.

Betty's 92 years were filled with the things that mattered most to her: a family she treasured, a lifetime of service to others, and an adventurous spirit that carried her across the country and around the world. Her greatest journey, however, was the life she built with Ralph and the generations of family that grew from their love. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her devotion to her family and community, and the countless memories she created along the way. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched and, most especially, through the generations of her family who were so deeply loved by her.
