December 3, 1951-February 5, 2022

Carolyn Benson, 70, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday February 5, 2022 at Northwest Health-Porter in Valparaiso, IN.

She was born December 3, 1951 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Morris Dean Wakeman and Evelyn (Beck) Wakeman.

A lifelong resident of the area, Carolyn was a graduate of La Porte High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree at Purdue Northwest University.  Carolyn had a variety of jobs throughout her life, but her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and friends. She loved going out to dinner, enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports, and feeding her hummingbirds at their feeders.  Carolyn liked horses and was a casual rider, but mostly proudly watched her children and grandchildren compete in events.  She was a member of the First Church of God and stayed true to her faith until the end.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Beck Ann (Nathan) Battleday of LaCrosse, IN; son, John Earl Benson of La Porte; aunt, Anne Rose of La Porte; grandchildren, Seth Aaron Benson, Monica Joy Benson, Clayton, Wesley and Jacob Battleday and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where a gathering of family and friends will take place on Friday February 11, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Cremation will take place.
