Cary M. Kraus, 87, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Northwest-Health Hospital in La Porte.

She was born May 4, 1933 in Athens, Alabama, the daughter of Edford  Gardner and Viola (Pepper) Gardner Ransom.

A homemaker, Cary worked for Independent Steel in New Buffalo for a short time as well. She was a member of the Shady Lane Church of Christ, Michigan City, for many years.  She was a bird watcher and a bird lover who enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Cary loved her family and adored her grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons, Casimer (Tresa) Gazarkiewicz of Goshen, IN, Steven (Cindy) Gazarkiewicz of La Porte, IN, John Gazarkiewicz of La Porte, IN; daughter, Judith Logothetis of Michigan City, IN;  six grandchildren, Wade, Holly, Paul, Sarah, Eric, Jessica; five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Joey, Morgan, Zane, Kendall and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Cary was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie "Bud" Kraus, who died in 2015,  brother, Kenneth Ransom and the father of her children, Casimer Gazarkiewicz.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, December 28 from 11-1 pm.  A Celebration of Cary's Life will be held at 1 pm at the funeral home, with Minister David Turnmire and Daniel Simpson, Shady Lane Church of Christ, officiating.  Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, IN. Due to current Covid restrictions, masks must be worn and 6 Ft. social distance practiced for these events.
