LaPorte

Charles Benjamin "Chuck" Ackerson, age 75, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away on Sunday morning, June 21, 2026, at Northwest Health–LaPorte.

Born on September 11, 1950, in LaPorte, Chuck was the son of Donald Ackerson and Lorraine A. (Johnson) Ackerson. He attended LaPorte High School before proudly answering the call to serve his country in the United States Army, serving honorably from 1970 to 1972. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life.

Chuck was a man whose generous heart touched everyone who knew him. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he would go out of his way to assist anyone in need. A gifted carpenter and handyman, he spent much of his life working with his hands, earning the respect of those around him through his strong work ethic, remarkable skill, and ability to fix just about anything. A true jack-of-all-trades, there seemed to be no project too difficult for Chuck to tackle.

When he wasn't working, Chuck found peace in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending hours fishing, content to enjoy the quiet regardless of whether the fish were biting. He also treasured the companionship of his faithful dogs, Bandit and Buster, who brought him endless joy over the years.

He is survived by his loving mother, Lorraine A. Ackerson; his longtime companion, Donna Rowland; his stepdaughter, Devony Dorset-Arvin; his cherished granddaughter, Misty Avevedo; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Geroldine Cummins (Steve); and his brother, Kim Ackerson (Melodie).

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Donald Ackerson, in 1986.

Chuck will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering willingness to help others, and the countless lives he touched through his generosity, hard work, and quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the friends he cherished, and the many people whose burdens were made lighter by his caring heart.

Per Chuck's wishes and those of his family, all services will be private.
