Cory Allen Burgess, Sr., age 63, of Michigan City, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 27, 2026.
Born on January 3, 1963, Cory was the son of the late James Edward Burgess, Jr. and Ellen (Morrelli) Burgess. He graduated from Ashville High School with the Class of 1981 and went on to build a life defined by hard work, unwavering devotion to his family, and a passion for the things he loved most. On March 30, 1985, he married the love of his life, Candi Wolfe. Together they shared more than 41 years of love, partnership, and countless cherished memories.
Cory dedicated 21 years of his career to Sullair, where he worked as a wirer. He was a skilled craftsman who loved working with his hands and found great satisfaction in rebuilding tractors and restoring firearms. Whether tinkering in the garage, riding his four-wheeler, or taking a tractor out for a drive, Cory was happiest when sharing those moments with his children and grandchildren. His love for animals was evident to all who knew him, as he always had a special place in his heart for both dogs and cats.
Above all else, Cory treasured his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and an adoring grandfather whose greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved. His steady presence, quiet strength, and willingness to lend a helping hand will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 41 years, Candi Burgess; his three children, Cory Burgess, Jr. (Becky), Carisa "Missy" Green, and Charlee Warren (Jeff); nine cherished grandchildren, Leah Davis, Nate Davis, Shane Joseph Jr., Lexi Joseph, Levi Mashburn, Bentlee Burgess, Elijah Warren, Violet Burgess, and Paislee Warren; his brother, Michael Burgess (Amanda); and his sister, Susie Aikman (Edward), along with many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Burgess III; and his sister, Brenda Lee Burgess.
Though his passing was sudden, the memories Cory created with his family and friends will endure for generations. His legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to those closest to him will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In accordance with Cory's wishes, The Burgess Family will host a celebration of his life on Saturday, August 29 starting at 12 noon at Luhr Park, 3178 S. 150 W., LaPorte, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the remarkable life he lived.
