LaPorte

David Alexander Pilarski, 78, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and quiet strength.

Born on May 1, 1947, in Michigan City, he was the beloved son of the late Alex Stanley Pilarski and Irene B. (Oshinski) Pilarski. David graduated from Elston High School in 1965 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in 1971—an accomplishment that reflected his determination and dedication to his future.

On a joyful beginning to a lifelong partnership, David married the love of his life, Judy K. Poczekay. The couple began their journey together with a honeymoon to Disney World, marking the start of 54 years filled with love, companionship, and shared adventures.

David devoted 39 years of his professional life to Dwyer Instruments in Michigan City, where he served faithfully and retired as Purchasing Manager. His work ethic, reliability, and steady leadership left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.

He was a longtime member of the Briar Leaf Men’s Club, where he formed many enduring friendships over 31 years. Outside of work and community, David found great joy in traveling with his family. He and Judy created cherished memories exploring destinations such as Hawaii, Alaska, Colorado, Florida, and spending several winters as snowbirds in Texas.

Above all, David will be remembered for his gentle spirit. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather—kind, patient, and unwaveringly supportive. His family describes him as someone who never spoke ill of others, who carried himself with quiet grace, and who always encouraged those around him to persevere and never give up. He also had a special love for animals, especially his beloved Shih Tzu, Minnie, who brought him much happiness.

David is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Judy K. Pilarski; his sons, Nik Pilarski (Kimberly) and Adam Pilarski; and his cherished grandchildren, Olivia Pilarski and Owen Pilarski.

In accordance with his wishes, all services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David’s memory to the Michiana Humane Society, 722 Indiana Highway 212, Michigan City, IN 46360.

David’s life was one of quiet goodness and enduring love—qualities that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
