Dawn E. Herman, age 75, of Pocahontas, Iowa. passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at home.Dawn Elaine Mecklenburg was born on April 15, 1949 in La Porte, IN; daughter of Henry "Hank" and Evelyn (Johnson) Mecklenburg. Dawn attended and graduated from La Porte High School in 1967, and graduated from South Bend (IN) Beauty School in 1968. On November 29, 1969, Dawn was united in marriage with her pen pal, John "Jack" Herman, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in La Porte. 

They had four children, and in 1980 Jack and Dawn moved to Iowa, where they would have their 5th child in 1981.Throughout Dawn's life, she had a few skilled opportunities from being a beautician, to a wonderful and fun Mom, to a cook. Locally, she was employed by Thrifty Boutique, The Cellar, a few nursing homes including, Pocahontas, Newell and Humboldt, The Community Center, and the Pocahontas Hospital.

In Dawn's spare and able time, she enjoyed crocheting and going to craft fairs and selling her projects. She was an avid reader, enjoyed coloring, baking, and being around her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to speaking with her brothers either by phone or via computer. Christmas was her favorite time where she loved to buy a "little something for everyone" as she would say.

Survivors include her husband, Jack of Pocahontas; sons, John (Keala) Herman, of Pocahontas, Joel (Jennifer) Herman of Newport News, VA; daughters, Jill (Andrew) Colborne, of Lutz, FL, and Jenelle (Shane) McKimmey of Humbolt; 12 grandchildren, Noah Keolanui-Herman, Joy (Aaron Ungs) Herman, Bailey (Bradley Roe) Herman, C.J., and Matthew Ferrand, Charles Herman, Jayden Fisher, Kennedy and Cash Colbourne, Phillip, Mason, and Easton McKimmey; 3 great-grandchildren, Paislee Mirabel, Levi and Lincoln Roe; brothers and their families, Mike (Anne) Mecklenburg, Mark (Lisa) Mecklenburg, Kurt Mecklenburg, and David (Anne) Mecklenburg, all of Indiana, and also many nieces, nephews, and other brothers-in-law and sister-in-law’s.Preceding her in death included her parents, Henry and Evelyn; her grandmother, Alice Zolemand (whom she had a special bond with growing up), daughter, Julie Peters; infant grandson, Jase Colborne, and her in-laws, John and Lucy Herman.

Funeral burial took place in Pocahontas, Iowa
