Donna Faye Underwood, 64, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away on February 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, devotion to her family, and a life marked by quiet strength and simple joys.
She was born on November 1, 1961, in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late Elmer “Buck” Caudill and Zelma Grace Pressley. As a teenager, Donna moved with her mother to LaPorte, where she would put down roots and build a life centered on family, hard work, and enduring friendships.
Donna was employed for many years as a housekeeper at various area hotels in the Michigan City area. She was known for her tireless work ethic and the pride she took in doing her job well. Her dedication and reliability reflected her character—a woman who believed in giving her best in all that she did.
Outside of her work, Donna found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved playing BINGO with her friends and visiting the casinos, where laughter and companionship made every trip memorable. She was also an avid watcher of crime shows, always eager to follow the twists and turns of a good mystery. Above all, Donna cherished her family. Her greatest happiness was found in the presence of her children and grandchildren, whose lives she enriched with her love, humor, and unwavering support.
Donna is lovingly remembered by her children, Diana Dombkowski (Matthew), Buffy Underwood, Tommy Underwood, and Michael Wade; her siblings, Sandy Johnson, Kim Caudill, Ronnie Caudill, Rick Caudill, and Kat Hill; her best friend and companion of over 20 years, Douglas Poortenga her 20 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved daughter, Rikki Underwood; her sister, Diane Johnson; and her brother, Chuck Caudill.
Donna’s life was a testament to perseverance, loyalty, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
All funeral services will be private.
