Born on October 14, 1952, in La Porte, Indiana, Doug graduated from La Porte High School, class of 1972 and married the love of his life, Susan Wolfenbarger on September 16, 1976. He spent his career at Independent Steel until they closed, then Stauffer Glove and Safety until his retirement in 2020. Doug devoted his life to his family, embodying the essence of love and loyalty throughout his years. The ultimate testament to his dedication can be witnessed in the unwavering bond between him and his son, Doug Sanders, who spent every weekend by his father's side since the passing of Doug's cherished wife, Susan. Their relationship served as a poignant reminder of the indomitable strength found within familial love.

Doug's life was punctuated by joyful memories, notably his deep-seated enthusiasm for classic cars, particularly his 1957 Oldsmobile. His grandchildren-Hayley Gust, Thomas (Colleen Henry) Dykstra, Paige (James) Cannan, William Dykstra, and Donny Churchill, were a constant source of joy and pride, as he reveled in witnessing their growth and accomplishments. As a great-grandfather to Paris Tibbs, Aerabella Churchill, Parker Gust, Willow Elliott, Faith Henry, James Cannan, Ahmilieana Sutherlin, Harlow Cannan, Remington (Douglas) Churchill, Suzana Cannan, Tazarh Byrd, his legacy of love has undoubtedly extended to the younger generations.
