Ethel Cable

Ethel L. Cable February 10, 1923-February 16, 2018 Ethel L. Cable, 95, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at her home in La Porte, Indiana. She was born February 10, 1923 in Farmington, Missouri, the daughter of Charles Short and Gwyneth (Hana) Parkhouse. Ethel retired from Stillwell School as a cook in the cafeteria. She was a member of Salem Chapel United Methodist Church of La Porte and the Stillwell Auxiliary Fire Department. Ethel enjoyed doing embroidery, puzzles, adult coloring books, and making handmade rugs. She also used to enjoy going to the La Porte County Fairgrounds and sitting on the top grandstand watching harness racing with her twin sister, Edith. Ethel also loved going for long car rides, especially going for trips up to St. Joseph, Michigan. On February 22, 1941, in La Porte, Indiana, she married Glen R. "Bud" Cable who preceded her in death on October 22, 1985. She is survived by her son, Glen "Butch" (Barb) Cable of Rolling Prairie, IN; two daughters, Susan Cable of La Porte, IN, Ellen (Dennis) Christensen of Fish Lake, IN; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Alan (Mary Ann) Short of Michigan City, IN; sister, Genece Hunsley of La Porte, IN. Ethel was preceded in death by both her parents, husband, son, Gerald Cable, one brother, and five sisters. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana where the family will receive friends Monday, February 19, 2018, 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, February 20, 2018, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Pamela Pask officiating.
