Gayle Dee Miller

Gayle Dee Miller, age 88, of LaPorte, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Northwest Hospital in LaPorte.

Gayle was born on October 17, 1937, in Cadillac, Michigan, to the late Walter and Evelyn (Nystrom) Swanson. For the past 64 years, she made LaPorte her home, building a life marked by hard work, determination, independence, and a personality that was entirely her own.

Fiercely independent and wonderfully feisty, Gayle possessed a strong spirit and an admirable work ethic. She continued working until the age of 75, never one to shy away from staying busy or doing things for herself. Throughout her career, Gayle worked for several years at WNDU, where she served as Head of the Continuity Department. She later worked in sales for Ludwig's Produce and Bernacchi's Farm Market, where her outgoing personality served her well.

Gayle also had an unmistakable sense of style. She loved to dress to the nines and rarely missed an opportunity to look her very best. High heels, beautiful jewelry, and fashionable clothing were all part of who she was. She took pride in her appearance and had a flair for putting herself together that those who knew her will always remember. Whether heading to work or simply going about her day, Gayle believed in doing so with style.

More than anything, Gayle will be remembered as a strong and spirited woman who lived life on her own terms. Her independence, determination, feisty personality, and signature sense of fashion made her unforgettable to those fortunate enough to know and love her.

Gayle is survived by her son, Steven Miller; daughter, Tracy Buchanan; three grandchildren, Zachary Buchanan (Angela), Kiana Buchanan, and Mariah Buchanan; and sister, Lorraine Erickson (Tom).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Evelyn Swanson; and two sisters, Shirley Gunnett (the late LD) and Karen Springberg (the late John).

In accordance with Gayle's wishes, all services will be held privately. Her family will remember a woman of strength and character—someone who worked hard, stood firmly on her own two feet, and always managed to do it in a great pair of heels.
