Grace Chapman

Grace Vonda Chapman June 17, 1923-February 12, 2019 Grace Vonda Chapman, 95, of La Porte, IN, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Settlers Place in La Porte, Indiana. She was born June 17, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Darst and Verta (Parr) Darst. Grace retired in 1984, after 23 years working for Whirpool in La Porte. She was a member of the Hanna United Methodist Church, Local #1172 UAW, United Methodist Friendship Circle, and the Pineview Homemakers Club, in West Columbia, South Carolina. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting at the Swanson Center. She was married to Frank Leonard from 1943-1966. On, November 9, 1968, in Hudson Lake, Indiana, she married Walter Chapman who preceded in death June 26, 1999. She is survived by her son, John Leonard of La Porte, IN; Daughter, Nancy Winn of LaPorte, IN; Foster Brother, William Mendenhall of Maryville, MO; step-daughter, Mary Jo Fettinger of Bloomington, IN; two step-sons, Ronald Chapman of Walkerton, IN, Robert Chapman of Bridgeport, TX; eight grandchildren, Steven (Angie) Starkey, Brian (Sherri) Starkey, Wesley (Teresa) Starkey, Carrie (Greg) Smith, John Leonard, Jr., Debbie (Chris) Jones, Tammy Cushon, Roy Leonard, Jr.; six great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren. Grace was preceded in death by both her parents; two husband; her son, Roy F. Leonard; sister, Carrie Brand. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana where the family will receive friends Friday, February 15, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John A. Haferkamp officiating. Interment will follow at the Door Village Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
