St. John

Jack A. Blake, of St. John, Indiana, formerly of LaPorte, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 8, 2026, at Franciscan Hospital in Dyer, Indiana.

Born on June 6, 1938, in South Bend, Jack was the son of the late Claude Emerson Blake and Mable (Roys) Blake. He graduated from Lakeville High School in 1956, a year that marked not only the completion of his education but also the beginning of a lifelong commitment to service and family. In September of that same year, he married his wife, Thelma Louise Blake, with whom he shared 66 devoted years until her passing in December of 2022.

Jack proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1960, embodying the values of duty and honor that would continue to guide him throughout his life. Following his military service, he dedicated over two decades to the LaPorte City Police Department, retiring in 1988. In the summer of 1969, he achieved a notable distinction as a lifelong charter member of Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Class #1—a testament to his commitment to professionalism and excellence in law enforcement.

A man of deep faith, Jack was a devoted member of the Vale Church of Christ in Valparaiso, where he found joy in fellowship and service alongside his church family. He cherished the simple pleasures of life—tending to his garden, enjoying a good book, and cheering on Notre Dame football—but nothing brought him greater happiness than time spent with those he loved.

Jack had a passion for travel and adventure. Among his most treasured experiences was a trip to Alaska, where he had the unique privilege of celebrating its admission as a state—an unforgettable moment in his life story.

In 2024, Jack found love and companionship once again when he married Sandra K. Blake, who survives him.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever carry his memory in their hearts: his wife, Sandra Blake; his son, Scott Blake (Debbie); his daughter, Dawn Beaty (Dwight); his grandchildren, Jeremy Blake (Kimberly), Trisha Beaty, Tracy Williamson (Mark), and Ashley Casey (Brandon); and his cherished great-grandchildren, Landon, Maddy, Clayton, Janeyiah, Courtney, and Zachory.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Thelma; his daughter, Teresa Blake; his brothers, Robert Blake, Lawrence Blake, and Delbert Blake; and his sisters, Gladys Mae, Muriel, and Elizabeth.

Burial services at Pine Lake Cemetery will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jack will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, steadfast faith, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. His legacy of service, kindness, and integrity will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
