James Alm

James Delbert Alm, 85, of Hanna, Indiana, passed away Friday December 12, 2025 at VNA Hospice of Northwest Indiana in Valparaiso, IN.

 He was born in October 2, 1940 in Lowell, Indiana to Fred C. Alm and Martha (Alm) Alm. 

James married Sandra Dillingham who survives.  

James was a sheet metal worker for many years and was a member of the Local 20 union of Portage. He was a highly talented man who could do almost anything, except plumbing. James loved woodworking, fishing, collecting guns and anything to do with the outdoors. He used to ride horses with his wife and was handy to keep all the yard equipment running well. He was also known in Hanna for playing basketball, something he was very good at. Most of all James loved his family and will be truly missed by all.

 Also surviving is his son, Daniel Alm; daughter, Danelle Cavinder; one sister, Shirley Eahorn; three grandchildren, Hannah Eaton, Noah Eaton, and D.J.; great-grandchild, Declan Alm, and many loving step children and grandchildren. 

James was preceded in death by brother, Ed Alm, brother, Charles Alm, brother, Richard Alm, sisters, Marion Alm, Louise Newby and Helen O'Kelly, granddaughter, Dannae Alm.

 Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, (219) 362-3333. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Kendall Schaeffer officiating. Private interment will be at Hanna Cemetery, Hanna.

 Memorial contributions may be made to the Dannae Nicole Alm Scholarship fund at Ivy Tech Valparaiso.
