Janet "Cozy" Brewer

Janet "Cozy" Brewer, 74, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025 at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born August 24, 1950 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Lawrence Christine and Alvena (Creed) Christine.

A lifelong resident of the area, Janet graduated from La Porte High School, class of 1969. She went on to study at Commonwealth Business school and worked at various places before retirement, including General Telephone, Dungarvin, Boise Cascade, American Home Foods and finally T.P. Orthodontics. She also worked for the inventor and entrepreneur, Frederick C. Mennen. On February 7, 1970, she married James Michael Brewer, who passed away in 1996. Janet collected antique dolls, enjoyed cooking and canning items from her brother's garden and caring for her precious cat, Prancie. Her passion, though, was her church, La Porte Assembly of God, where she praised God through her singing and her involvement in the Dragonflies Bible Study group.

Cozy, as she was lovingly known, is survived by her daughter, Andrea (Stacey) Merrill of La Porte; her brother, Rick L. Christine of La Porte; sister Judith Rubio of Florida and grandchildren Kaylee Cozette Summerlin and Benjamin Allen Summerlin.

Along with James, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerry Christine and her baby sister, Vickie Lynn Christine.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Assembly of God Church, La Porte, IN on June 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation has been selected and the cremated remains will be privately interred in Door Village Cemetery.
