Jay Singleton Sr.

Jay N. Singleton Sr. August 23, 1950-May 14, 2017 Mr. Jay N. Singleton Sr., 66, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Sunday May 14, 2017 at his home in La Porte, Indiana. He was born August 23, 1950 in Stillwell, Indiana, the son of Perry Singleton and Margaret (Worthington) Singleton. Jay was a 1968 LaPorte High School graduate. He retired from Aero Metals after twenty-two years and also worked eleven years for Howmet. Jay was a member of the First Church of God of LaPorte and the Moose Lodge #492 of La Porte. He enjoyed working in his yard, woodworking, and rides in his Mustang convertible. Jay was a music enthusiast and talented singer who enjoyed Karaoke with his grandchildren. Jay's faith in God and amazing strength carried him through years of juvenile diabetes and it's complications. He and his wife, Debbie, enjoyed dancing as long as his health permitted, and many people commented that they could tell that their "feet hit the floor often". Jay touched many lives with his spirit and sense of humor. Jay's love and devotion to his wife and best friend Debbie, was evident to all. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. On August 18, 1984, in Mill Creek, Indiana , he married Debra (Tarnow) Singleton who survives. He is also survived by his son, Jay N. (Holly) Singleton Jr. of La Porte, IN; two daughters, Penny (Lenny) Grosswiler of Elkhart, IN, Amy (Chad) Harmon of New Carlisle, IN; eight grandchildren, Abby, Shelby, Korbin, Violet, Jason, Jared, Julie and Nathan; brother, Walter (Betsy) Singleton of Stillwell, IN; sister, Penny (Carl) Nowatske of Michigan City, IN; and his Shichon dog companion, Worthington. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gary Singleton and, in-laws, Gene and Doris Tarnow. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Wednesday, May 17, 2017, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm and Thursday, May 18, 2017, from 9:00 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday May 18, 2017 at 10:00 am with Pastor Jeff Zigler officiating.
