Joan Lofgren, 80, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully Sunday October 15, 2023 at her home,with her loving family at her side. 

 

She was born January 22, 1943 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of John E. Lofgren and Mary (Hughes) Lofgren.

Joan grew up in La Porte and graduated from La Porte High School. She moved to Joliet, ILwhere she began her career as a secretary. She moved to Hammond, IN to join her sister Judy to care for their mother until her passing. She moved back to LaPorte after her retirement and has been there for the last 15 years of her life.

 

Joan is survived by her sister, Sherrie Vegter of Chama, NM, and her brother, Jay Lofgren (Bonnie); andsister-in-law Margaret Lofgren (Richard Lofgren (d.)) of Niles, MI; nieces and nephews: Adam Lofgren(Rita), whom she fondly referred to as her ‘nephson’ of La Porte, IN, Patti Reichenbach (John) of Joliet,IL, Tammy Cody (Chuck (d.)) of LaPorte, Crystal Mejia (Eddie) of CO, Melissa Gray (Steve) of Niles, MI,Curtis Lofgren, Ben Lofgren (Anita), Annie Moss (Eddie), Tim Lofgren, Pam Cannon (Rob) of Melbane,NC, Ned Lofgren, LeAnne Crocker of Satsuma, AL, Rick Wampler of Orlando, FL and special friends,Donna Mae Robertson, who was like a sister and John Belom, who Joan referred to as her soulmate. She had several great-nieces and great-nephews: Matt Reichenbach (Abbey), Brian Reichenbach (Dani),John Robert Reichenbach (Kelsey finance), Cassie Alford (Jared), Lauren (Cody) Andrews, Ben Corridon (Amy), Scott Lofgren (Shelby), Travis Moss, Tracy Spier (d.)(Johnny), Dustin Lofgren (Vanessa), Jasmine Klenke (Justin), Jillian Maricle (Cameron(d.)), Evan Cannon (Lydia), Amber Lindsay, Heather Lindsay, Christina Lindsay, Jessica Lindsay, Troy Lindsay, Curtis Lofgren, Cassandra Young, Miranda Moorman, Vincent Mejia, Gabriel Mejia, Nicholas Gray, Felicity Gray, Ella Gray, Ezra Gray, Esther Gray, Sherman Isaacs (d.), and Donna Mae’s children, Tana, Heather and Brett. She had many, many great-great nephews/nieces.

 

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Lofgren; sisters, Carole Wampler

(Richard(d.)) and Judy Lofgren (Bill(d.)); niece, Cindy Lofgren.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where a gathering of family and friends will take place from 12:00 noon to 1:00p.m.on Sunday, October 22, 2023 with a celebration of Joan's life to follow at 1:00 p.m.  Chaplain Melissa Buche, Dunes Hospice, will officiate. Cremation has taken place.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the La Porte Small Animal Shelter and the Jane Bernard Adoption Center, 2855 West SR 2, La Porte, IN 46350.
