Joe W. Smith February 20, 1945-November 3, 2017 Joe W. Smith, 72, of Walkerton, Indiana, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at Golden Living Center-Countryside in LaPorte, Indiana. He was born February 20, 1945 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Linden Leroy Smith and Mary Jane (Cockrell) Smith. Joe was a lifetime resident of Fish lake. He was also a lifetime member, and has served as Commander, of the American Legion Fish Lake Post #400. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his friends from the American Legion. He is survived by his three sisters, Judy (Merlyn) Miller of Crumstown, IN, Jane (Glen) Hefner of Walkerton, IN, Jean (Chet) Downey of Fish Lake, IN; nine nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by both his parents; brother, Lynn Smith; sister, Gayle Nickles; nephew, Richard Downey. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana. A life celebration will be held at the American Legion Fish Lake Post #400, 302 Lakeside Dr., Walkerton, Indiana Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date at the Salem Cemetery, La Porte, Indiana.
