John "Steve" Ginther, 74, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 8:24 a.m., Monday, August 11, 2025 at his home in La Porte, IN.
He was born on May 10, 1951 in Pana, IL, to John O. Ginther and Jean (Schupbach) Ginther.
On August 24, 1974 in Michigan City, Steve married Monica Bentley, who survives
Steve retired from South Shore Railroad after dedicating 38 years of service as an electrician. He was highly talented and was known as "Mr. Fix It" for his ability to fix almost anything. Steve enjoyed working in the yard and spending time with his beloved dog "Macy"' watching the Cubs and Bears play. In his younger years, Steve also enjoyed detailing cars, something he took great pride in doing. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Steve was greatly loved and will be truly missed.
Also surviving are his daughter, Carey (Clayton Glossinger) Seifert; son, Chad (Gabrielle) Ginther; sister, Bonnie Helt of Westerville, OH; grandchildren, Isaac Seifert, Ian Seifert, and Eden Ginther.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Ginther.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2025 at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave, La Porte, (219) 362-3333. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, with Pastor Joseph Watterson officiating. Cremation has been chosen.
