Joseph F. Hakes

December 21, 1948 - July 13, 2022

Joseph F. Hakes, 73, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Wednesday July 13, 2022 at his home

with his family by his side.

He was born December 21, 1948 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Ransom Hakes and Lucille

(Hollaway) Hakes.

Joe enjoyed many things in life from fishing, boating, playing softball, watching his grandkids

play sports and cooking for his family. His cooking was so good he could’ve opened up his own

restaurant but he chose to perfect ABS as a brake technician. He took pride in his work and

would jokingly refer to himself as a professional when driving, but as with everything he did, he

was just that. He was on the Bosch softball team for a few years. He spent a lot of time gardening

and landscaping his yard, but Joe's biggest passion was playing golf and just being with his

family.

On June 16, 1973, in New Carlisle, he married Mellody (Bowker) Hakes who survives.

He is also survived by his son, Scott (Wendy) Hakes; daughter, Jamie (Sam) Brown; five

grandchildren, Benjamin, Jackson, Joseph, Gabrielle, and Arwen.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, brothers (Billy, Phillip, and, David), and sisters

(Edna, Charlotte, Ruth, and Josephine).

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602

Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, July 19

from 9 AM until 10 AM. A life celebration will be held at 10 AM, at Haverstock Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery,

LaPorte, Indiana where military honors will be presented.

Joe's name.
