It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Justin Charles Paton on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Justin was born on February 2, 1975, in Johannesburg, South Africa to Andrew and Carol Paton. His education took him across the globe, ultimately leading him to the United States, where he attended Eastern Nazarene University. In 2006, Justin met the love of his life, Olivia Seaton, and they united in marriage in January 2009 in Clinton, New Jersey. Together, Justin and Olivia raised two wonderful sons, William and Samuel, and cultivated a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. After enjoying life in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, he and his family found his way to LaPorte, Indiana in 2015.
Justin’s career as an Electrical Engineer flourished at Notre Dame University. Justin's work provided him with the incredible opportunity to spend more quality time with his beloved family, which brought him immense joy.
Justin was a dedicated member of Liberty Bible Church in LaPorte, where he co-led a young men's Bible study every Tuesday. His commitment to the church and the community was evident through his faithful volunteer work in the children’s department, where he connected kids to their faith in meaningful ways. Known as “Mr. Justin”, his kind nature and open heart were a fixture and a source of comfort and friendship.
A true adventurer at heart, Justin's passion for travel was shared with his sons as they explored new places together. With an insatiable curiosity, he visited historic sites across the country, ensuring that he never returned to the same place twice. Justin loved a good road trip, traveling across the U.S., from Maine to Oregon and all places in between. The more unique the better. He travelled extensively across Europe, from Scandinavia to the Czech Republic. His favorite place on earth was the Isle of Skye off the coast of Scotland.
Justin's love for life was rich and eclectic. He enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen for his family. Each Christmas he made his Aunty Ann's fruitcake recipe. He shared a special bond with his sons, father-in-law, and brother-in-law over their love of White Castle. He appreciated a wide variety of music and cars. He loved people, and conversations with him ran the gamut from the ridiculous to the deeply theological. His dry wit and his sense of humor drew everyone into his circle, and no one was safe from his gentle teasing.
Justin was a generous and thoughtful soul, even in his final act of kindness as an organ and tissue donor, helping to improve the lives of 72 individuals as well as further scientific research into Alzheimer’s Disease and Autism. He will be dearly missed by all but forever remembered for his spirit of generosity, kindness, and unwavering love for family and friends.
Justin is survived by his devoted wife: Olivia; sons: William and Samuel Paton; mother: Carol Paton; brother: Bryan (Angela) Paton; niece and nephews: Tayla, Callen, and Rowan Paton; great-nephew: Archer; parents-in-law: Golden Seaton and Gary (Katie) Seaton; brother-in-law: Matthew (Lacey) Seaton; as well as his hound, Kava, who was his "good girl."
A celebration of Justin's life will be held at a later time at Liberty Bible Church in LaPorte, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made in Justin’s name may be made to Liberty Bible Church, LaPorte (608 Colfax St., LaPorte, IN 46350).
