Karen J. Girard, age 84, of Kingsford Heights, IN, passed away August 24, 2023 at Brickyard La Porte.
She was born July 7, 1939 in Michigan City, IN to George and Opal (Isaac) Snyder.
A resident of the area, Karen graduated from high school in Valparaiso. Karen left Indiana shortly after graduation first to live in California, then Texas and Alabama as a military wife, returning home to live several times in between. She settled "Back home in Indiana" in 1974 where she raised her children as a proud USW member. She worked as a HazMat attendant for Roll Coater and was a member of the American Unit Auxiliary Post 207 as well as a devoted member of Tracy Lutheran Church. Karen was an avid reader of mysteries, especially Perry Mason. She enjoyed playing games and cards, working crossword puzzles and gardening. Her favorite musician was Tom Jones and her favorite team was the Cubs. Karen loved her Cokes and went to the store every day to get one. Her family was precious to her and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Dale (Elaine) Girard of Westville, IN; daughters Maria Teri Galka of Hobart, IN, Barbara (Randy) Eriks of North Judson, IN, Pamela (Brian) Young of Callaway, FL; brother Pete (Bonnie) Snyder of Hobart, IN; sisters Connie (Richard) of Chesterton,IN, Lorrie of Charlottesville, VA, Valerie of Wanatah,IN; 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a large extended family.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Sheryl Morrison; sisters, Lilah, Georgie and Mona.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave. La Porte, IN 46350 where a visitation will be August 29 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at the Tracy Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hamlet, IN on Wednesday, August 30 with visitation from 10 am until service time at 11 am with Pastor David Albertin officiating. Burial to take place as Tracy Cemetery after the service.
