Kathleen Mary Kearns, age 67, of Michigan City, Indiana, formerly of Grayslake, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 21, 1959, Kathleen was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Anne Kearns. She graduated from Palatine High School with the Class of 1977 before pursuing her passion for education at the University of Illinois, where she earned both her bachelor's degree and her master's degree.
Kathleen dedicated her life to serving others through both her family and her profession. Before returning to the classroom, she devoted many years to raising her six sons, embracing motherhood with unwavering love, patience, and selflessness. In recent years, she found great fulfillment as a special education teacher at Edgewood School in Michigan City, where she taught for the past ten years. Her compassion, encouragement, and genuine care touched the lives of countless students, helping each one recognize their own unique abilities and worth.
A woman of both intellect and faith, Kathleen found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved losing herself in the pages of a good mystery novel and had a gift for writing that allowed her thoughtful and creative spirit to shine. She enjoyed taking peaceful walks, spending meaningful time with her family, and nurturing the close relationships that meant so much to her. Prior to making Michigan City her home, Kathleen was a faithful member of The Chapel in Grayslake, Illinois, where her spiritual foundation continued to strengthen the kindness and grace with which she lived her life.
Those who knew Kathleen will remember her as a woman of remarkable strength, quiet intelligence, deep spirituality, and boundless love. She faced life's joys and challenges with resilience and compassion, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her greatest source of pride was her family, and the love she poured into her children and grandchildren will remain a lasting legacy.
Kathleen is survived by her six loving sons, Michael James Vincent (Erinn), Steven Andrew Vincent, Joseph Thomas Vincent, Justin Allen Vincent (Priya), David Isreal Vincent (Melissa), and Daniel Jonathan Vincent; four cherished grandchildren, Alice Vincent, Miles Vincent, Henry Vincent, and Arjun Vincent; her siblings, Karen Ferguson (Bill), Thomas Kearns, Jr., and Daniel Kearns; special cousin Donna Bieschke; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Thomas and Kathryn Kearns, and her infant son, Joshua Caleb Vincent.
Though Kathleen's time on earth ended far too soon, the love she shared, the lives she shaped, and the faith she quietly lived will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be a source of comfort and peace, reminding those she leaves behind that a life devoted to love, learning, and compassion is a life truly well lived.
