Luz "Lucy" Maria Medina

Luz Maria (Ramos) Medina, lovingly known as “Lucy” to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the age of 79 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Lucy was born on June 1, 1946, in Guanica, Puerto Rico, to the late Rev. Otilio Ramos and Benita (Melendez) Ramos. From humble beginnings, she grew into a woman whose life was defined by her love for Jesus and spreading the gospel across the world through every means possible.

Lucy graduated from the Latin American Council Bible Institute in New York City after completing three years of study. She then went on to graduate from Mizpa Pentecostal University in Puerto Rico after another three years of study in Theology. She served as a missionary to Peru and Venezuela. Had a radio station in Lima, Peru and founded many churches abroad.

Lucy was a missionary, worshipper, songwriter, musician, poet, author of two books Boga Mar Adentro and Decisiones. She was a preacher, pastor and a church planter. She ministered both abroad and in the United States bringing people to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Secularly, Lucy worked as a secretary in various law offices, where she was known for her diligence, professionalism, and kind demeanor. Her thoughtful nature and careful attention to detail made her a trutsted colleague and friend to many throughout her career.

On December 11, 1986, she married the love of her life, Eliezer Medina. Together they built a life ministering to everyone around them everywhere they went. Their marriage of 39 years was a testament to their enduring devotion and partnership.

Lucy, along with her husband Eliezer, was co-founder and co-pastor of Puerta De Salvacion Church in LaPorte for more than a decade. Her church family held a special place in her heart, and she was deeply cherished within the congregation. Those who knew Lucy often described her as considerate and sensible, someone who approached even the most difficult situations with compassion, patience, and great care. Above all, she was known for her loving, kind, and sweet spirit that warmly embraced both her family and her church community.

She leaves behind a legacy of love in the hearts of those who knew her. Lucy is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Eliezer Medina, Sr.; her children, Jonathan Gutierrez (Biana), Eliezer Medina, Jr. (Christine), Daniel Medina (Evelyn), Stephen Medina (Dominique), and Jaysalee Medina (Wilbur); and 12 cherished grandchildren. She is also survived by 6 of 14 siblings, many loving nieces and nephews, and a host of dear friends and members of her church family who will miss her deeply.

A funeral service celebrating Lucy’s life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, LaPorte, Indiana 46350. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte.

Luz María (Ramos) Medina, conocida cariñosamente como "Lucy" por su familia y amigos, falleció en paz el lunes 9 de marzo de 2026, a los 79 años, en el Hospital Luterano de Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Lucy nació el 1 de junio de 1946, en Guanica, Puerto Rico, al fallecido Rev. Otilio Ramos y Benita (Melendez) Ramos. Desde sus inicios humildes, creció en una mujer cuya vida estuvo definida por su amor por Jesucristo y la difusión del evangelio en todo el mundo a través de todos los medios posibles.

Lucy se graduó del Instituto Bíblico del Concilio Latinoamericano en la Ciudad de Nueva York después de completar tres años de estudio. Luego se graduó de la Universidad Pentecostal Mizpa en Puerto Rico después de otros tres años de estudio en Teología. Sirvió como misionera en Perú y Venezuela. Tuvo una estación de radio en Lima, Perú, y fundó muchas iglesias en el extranjero.

Lucy fue misionera, adoradora, compositora de canciones, música, poeta, autora de dos libros "Boga Mar Adentro" y "Decisiones". Fue predicadora, pastora y fundadora de iglesias. Ministró tanto en el extranjero como en los Estados Unidos llevando a las personas al conocimiento de Jesucristo.

En el ámbito secular, Lucy trabajó como secretaria en varios despachos de abogados, donde era conocida por su diligencia, profesionalismo y carácter amable. Su naturaleza reflexiva y atención cuidadosa a los detalles la convirtieron en una colega y amiga confiable para muchos a lo largo de su carrera.

El 11 de diciembre de 1986, se casó con el amor de su vida, Eliezer Medina. Juntos construyeron una vida ministrando a todos alrededor de ellos en todas partes que iban. Su matrimonio de 39 años fue un testimonio de su devoción y asociación duraderas.

Lucy, junto con su esposo Eliezer, fue co-fundadora y co-pastora de la Iglesia Puerta De Salvación en La Porte, Indiana durante más de una década. Su familia de la iglesia ocupaba un lugar especial en su corazón, y era profundamente querida dentro de la congregación. A aquellos que conocieron a Lucy se les describe a menudo como considerados y sensatos, alguien que abordaba incluso las situaciones más difíciles con compasión, paciencia y gran cuidado. Por encima de todo, era conocida por su espíritu amable y dulce que abrazaba cálidamente tanto a su familia como a su comunidad de la iglesia.

Deja un legado de amor en el corazón de aquellos que la conocieron. Le sobrevive su querido esposo de 39 años, Eliezer Medina, Sr.; sus hijos, Jonathan Gutierrez (Biana), Eliezer Medina, Jr. (Christine), Daniel Medina (Evelyn), Stephen Medina (Dominique), y Jaysalee Medina (Wilbur); y 12 nietos queridos. También sobrevive 6 de 14 hermanos, muchas sobrinas y sobrinos queridos, y una numerosa cantidad de amigos queridos y miembros de su familia de la iglesia que la extrañará profundamente.

Un servicio funerario que celebra la vida de Lucy se llevará a cabo el sábado 21 de marzo de 2026, a las 1:00 PM en la Funeraria Haverstock y Servicios de Cremación, 602 Avenida Maple, LaPorte, Indiana 46350. La visita se realizará desde las 11:00 AM hasta el momento del servicio. El entierro seguirá inmediatamente después en el Cementerio Pine Lake en LaPorte, IN.
