Lydia Marie Livinghouse
January 22, 1924-August 2, 2025
Lydia Marie Livinghouse, 101, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025 at home, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born January 22, 1924 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Wilbur Huge and Dora (Felton) Huge.
A lifelong resident of the area, Lydia graduated from Rolling Prairie High School, class of 1942. On July 8, 1944, in Michigan City, IN, she married Ray Livinghouse, who preceded her in death on December 29, 2011. Together they raised their children and worked their farm, somehow finding time in their busy schedule to go square dancing, which Lydia loved. Apart from the farming, Lydia was also a wonderful homemaker, actively following the 4-H and school activities of her children and grandchildren. She attended Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church, was a former member of the Kankakee Township Extension Homemakers Club, was an excellent cook, hosting most of the family events and celebrations, and was a wedding cake baker who taught the art to others. Lydia loved spending time with her family at the lake, as well as attending the La Porte County Fair, missing only a year or two since her children were involved. She was a kind and gracious woman, loved by many, who will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
Lydia is survived by her daughter, Wanda (Chris) Schoof of La Porte, IN; three sons, Richard (Marilynn) Livinghouse of La Porte, IN, Erness (Linda) Livinghouse of La Porte, IN, Donald (Sandra) Livinghouse of New Carlisle, IN; sister, Carolyn Snider of Attica, IN; six grandchildren, Jody (Troy) Hinkle, Leslie (Brian) Witkowski, Scott (Michelle) Livinghouse, Julie (Mike) Kirkham, Randy (Dana) Livinghouse, Allison (Ryan) Younggreen; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband of 67 years, Lydia was preceded in death by her son, Edward Livinghouse, sisters, Bertha Schoof, Doris Martensen, Elizabeth Bracken, Erma Dial, Carol Jesswein, Wilma Glasshagel, and Frances Grisamore.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends for a viewing on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Friday, August 8, from 10:00 to service time at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will take place.
