Michael Hand

Michael Hand August 18, 1943-January 8, 2018 Michael Hand, 74, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. He was born August 18, 1943 in Kingsford Heights, Indiana , the son of Robert C. Hand and Doris (Couch) Elkins. Michael retired in 2004 from Dye Plumbing and Heating as a journeyman plumber. He served in the United States Marines from 1961-1964 and also served over twenty years in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion Post 83 of La Porte. Michael enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his family. In 1989, in Garrett, Kentucky, he married Vonda (Lawson) Hand who survives in La Porte, Indiana. He is also survived by his three sons, Michael Hand of La Porte, IN, Matthew (Tracy) Hand of Kingsford Heights, IN, Todd (Jenny) Gearheart of La Porte, IN; five grandchildren, Jakob, Tristin, Jordan, Drew, Gabrielle; brother, Stephan (Bev) Hand of Kingsford Heights, IN; sister, Suzi Anderson of La Porte, IN; best friend, Sonnie (Dorothy) Lawson of Rolling Prairie, IN. Michael was preceded in death by both his parents and brother, Robert Hand. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, January 12, 2018, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday, January 12, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Nobel officiating. Interment will follow at the Kingsbury Cemetery, Kingsbury, Indiana. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 83 of La Porte.
