Michael D. Thomas August 24, 1939-July 28, 2018 Michael D. Thomas, 78, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital in La Porte, Indiana. He was born August 24, 1939 in Gary, Indiana, the son of Joseph Thomas and Ann (Rogers) Thomas. Michael was a lifetime employee and retiree of the South Shore Railroad. In his spare time, Michael enjoyed woodworking, antique cars, fishing, nature and being outdoors. He is survived by his son, Bruce (Cindy) Thomas of Rolling Prairie, IN; daughter, Susan (Robert) Bennett of Lowell, IN; four grandchildren, Shelbi Thomas of New Carlisle, IN, Emilee Thomas of South Bend, IN, Anai Bennett of Lowell, IN, Levi Bennett of Lowell, IN; four sisters, Joanne (Mike) Duszynski of Michigan City, IN, Agnes (Raymond) O'Neil of FL, Carol (Edward) Hill of Rolling Prairie, IN, Theresa (James) Moore of Michigan City, IN; two brothers, Ronald (Betty) Thomas of Michigan City, IN, Jerold (Laura) Thomas of Michigan City, IN; long time companion, Dorothy Adkins of Michigan City, IN. Michael was preceded in death by both his parents; son, Kent Thomas, brother, Robert Thomas. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana. A gathering of friends and family will be Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
