Mildred R. Kruger, a cherished matriarch whose love and warmth embraced all those fortunate enough to know her, passed away peacefully at her home on October 20, 2025, at the age of 94. With her granddaughter Andrea by her side. Born on August 6, 1931, in Monterey, Indiana, Mildred was a beacon of devotion and kindness, not only as a proud homemaker but also as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She married the love of her life Donald on April 7, 1956 in San Pierre, IN.Mildred was the last graduating member of the Kingsbury High School class, a distinction she carried with pride throughout her life. She poured her heart into her family, nurturing them with selflessness and an unyielding spirit. Her innate generosity and warmth were matched only by her commitment to providing a loving home where memories were made and shared. Lifelong member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ.
Throughout her life, Mildred exhibited a zest for knowledge and leisure alike, nurturing her mind as avidly as she cared for her family. She enjoyed doing puzzles and spent countless hours immersed in books. Mildred also took on the role of a cashier at Al Hinton's in La Porte, where her friendly demeanor brightened the days of many customers. A proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW, she found joy in community and camaraderie.Mildred's enthusiasm for family gatherings extended to her beloved grandchildren—Andrea, Alicia, and Dustin—who were blessed with her unwavering support and affection. Each of her great grandchildren, Donald, MacKenzie, and Connor, carried the spark of her vibrant spirit, and the bonds she forged with them were truly special, filled with laughter and love. She leaves behind her son William (Melissa) Kruger and daughter Denise (David) Borkowski, nieces Carol La Gard, Sharon Kraus, Roxanne Jarbor, Debbie Orlowski, and Sandy Spur.
For many years, Mildred delighted in visiting Mackinac Island, where she created some of her most treasured memories. These trips were not just vacations; they were opportunities for fun and connection, leaving a lasting imprint on her family’s heart.Mildred was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Donald Kruger, whose legacy continued through the love they shared. She is also reunited in spirit with her parents, William and Gertrude (Wright) Kruger, and her dear sister, Evelyn Huhnke, all of whom she deeply cherished.Mildred R. Kruger leaves behind a legacy that will resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
Her visitation will be held on October 24, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, both taking place at Haverstock Funeral Home Inc in La Porte, Indiana. Afterward, she will be laid to rest at Union Mills Cemetery, where family can gather to reminisce and honor her remarkable life.Mildred’s heartbeat lives on in her family, echoing through their stories, laughter, and love.
