Jerry A Rose

May 10, 1942-May 26, 2023

Mrs. Jerry A Rose, 81, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, May 26, 2023 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN.

She was born May 10, 1942 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Arthur Gustav Huenecke and Minnie Emma (Karsen) Huenecke.

A lifelong resident of the area, Jerry graduated from La Porte High School in 1960.  She went to work at Lenick's Dairy where she met John A Rose III who, on August 26, 1961, she married at St John's Lutheran Church in La Porte. Together they created wonderful memories for their children, like dancing to favorite records in the living room and going on date nights to the movies. Jerry was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was a cook for the school cafeteria for 20 years, returning later in life to help out part time. Her memberships also included the Maple City Cadets, Polish Falcon's Nest 564, The Hamon Gray American Legion Post 83 Women’s Auxiliary, the VFW Post 1130 Women’s Auxiliary and the La Porte High School Booster Club.  Jerry served as a bartender for weddings and special events and was a huge Slicer football fan. An avid bowler, she was inducted into the La Porte Women's Bowling Hall of Fame. She enjoyed watching her favorite NASCAR driver, Bobby LaBonte, working puzzles and playing cards.  Jerry loved the La Porte County Fair and was a 10 year 4-H member herself who then enjoyed watching her grandchildren show livestock. Summer was her favorite season- she could get outside and garden and go fishing with her girls, even helping her daughter, April, win the big women's fishing tournaments in South Haven, Michigan. And, oh, the fish stories they shared.... As a homemaker, Jerry loved sewing, especially making Barbie and other doll clothes, doing ceramics and crocheting blankets. Her greatest joy, though, was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their games, sports and school events.

Jerry is survived by her two daughters, April (Charles) Baima of La Porte, IN, Deborah Mansfield of La Porte, IN; sister Shirley Shortt of La Porte; sister-in-laws Marilyn Zoborosky of La Porte and Eleanor Huenecke of La Porte; six grandchildren, Adam, Brandon and Dylan Mansfield, Taylor, Brooke and Nathan Baima; two great-grandchildren, Leila and Jonathan Mansfield; many nieces and nephews and a wealth of good friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 41 years, John; infant son, Anthony John Rose; twin daughters, Lisa and Lottie Rose; brothers, Arthur, Herbert and Gerhard Huenecke and sister Jeanette Peterson.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends on Thursday June 1, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St John's Lutheran Church on Friday, June 2 at 10:00 a.m., with The Reverend John Albers, officiating.  Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery.
