Nancy L Mason

October 8, 1937-May 1, 2025

Nancy Mason, beloved mother and cherished friend, passed away on May 1, 2025, at St. Anthony's Majestic Care Center in Crown Point, Indiana. She was 87 years old. Born on October 8, 1937, in Rockford, Michigan, Nancy lived a life full of love, laughter, and memories that will forever be treasured by those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Nancy was the second oldest of nine children in the Funk family, blessed with a natural ability to connect with people. Her warmth and vivacity drew others in, and she delighted in sharing stories from her life, each tale a testament to her rich and textured experiences. She owned her own business, where she cleaned houses for local judges, demonstrating both her entrepreneurial spirit and her unwavering work ethic.

Her love for country music ran deep, rooted in her childhood experiences following her father, who played in a country music band. These early memories fueled her passion for the genre, which became a soundtrack to her life and a story she loved to share with those around her. Music was not just a pastime for Nancy; it was a language she spoke fluently, a connection she created with friends and family alike.

Nancy is lovingly remembered by her sons Andrew Heiss, Daniel Heiss, and Steven Heiss, and her daughter Mary. She is survived by her siblings, Gary (Cindy) Funk, Wendy (Owen) Stuerzinger, and Jean Toner, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her spirit of generosity and storytelling. Though she faced the heart-wrenching loss of her daughter Suzie and the passing of her parents, Donald and Hattie Funk, as well as her brothers Donald and Rex, and her sister Patricia Horner, Nancy's heart remained open and full.

Her legacy of kindness, resilience, and love will continue to resonate within the hearts of her family and friends for generations to come. Nancy Mason's life was a beautiful tapestry woven from the threads of family, music, and community—a tapestry that will never fade but will rather grow richer as those who loved her recount her stories and celebrate her memory.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a later time.
