Othel L. "Opie" Terry

November 3, 1967-May 30, 2025

Othel "Opie" Terry, a cherished soul known for his vivacious spirit and love for music, passed away on May 30, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 3, 1967, in the bustling town of Hammond, Indiana, Opie grew to be a luminary in the lives of all who knew him.

A proud graduate of Whiting High School, Opie's education laid the foundation for a life filled with achievements. He dedicated many years of his career as management for tire shops, but it was his passion for music that resonated most deeply within him. A talented lead guitarist, he was a beloved member of several bands over the years, lighting up every gathering with his infectious energy and playing. Opie's personality was a vibrant tapestry woven from the threads of joy and laughter; he was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need, but if you brought negativity to his family... Look out! His famous catchphrase, "Everybody Love Everybody," echoed his philosophy on life, reflecting an unwavering embrace of kindness and community.

Above all, Opie's heart belonged to his family, which was his most treasured aspect of existence. He is survived by his loving wife, Manda, and his devoted children: April (Gunner Ridgeway) Terry, Austin (Sarita Spooner) Terry, Leilani Terry, Liam Terry, as well as his musical apprentice Cael. His legacy will continue through the laughter and joy of his granddaughter Lillian and his soon to be born grandson.

Opie is survived by his siblings including his sister-in-law Tamara Terry (Ryan, Paul, Jake), Lisa Marie (Chris) Breneman (Michael, Damien, Casen), Trinity (Tracy) Terry, and Traci Terry-Florez. His bonds extend to a large family who lovingly called him Uncle "O", along with his Aunts Terri and Pam Ballard.

He joins in eternal rest with those who preceded him in death: his grandmother Ruth "Ma" Tackett, his father, Leon Mendoza and his mother, Leilani Mendoza, alongside his brother, Darrell Terry.

Through his music, his warm spirit, and the love he shared so freely, Opie leaves behind a legacy of joy that will resonate in the hearts of his family and friends for years to come. He will be remembered not just for the life he lived, but for the love he so generously gave, and the songs he played that brought happiness to countless souls. May his memory be a vibrant note in the symphony of life he so cherished.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN. A life celebration will be held at a later date in Michigan. Cremation has taken place.
