Richard Lawrence Strieter (Rick), 74, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed on Sunday, May 17th.
Rick was born on March 12, 1952 in Chicago, IL to the late Martin and Grace Strieter. He was a graduate of LaPorte High School. Rick fell in love with Teri Lynn Wright and married at St. John’s Lutheran Church on June 26, 1971. Together they spent 55 years together.
Rick’s favorite role was that of a grandparent. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their Papa, never failing to make them ice cream cones after school or taking Andie’s math “tests”.
Rick appreciated the simpler things in life — tending to a garden, cutting firewood, helping friends and family, enjoying a cold refreshment, and anything that didn’t require a computer to operate. He also enjoyed Nascar, college basketball tournaments, and football in the fall. He was a lifelong baseball fan and loyal Cubs supporter, but the games he loved most were watching his grandson, Payton’s, college baseball games on livestream.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife: Teri; children: Mike (Teri) Strieter, Brian Strieter, and Erin (Mike) Fulton; grandchildren: Amelia and Andie Strieter and Payton and Gracie Fulton; brothers: Carl “Butch” Strieter and Robert “Bobby Jo” (Sharon) Strieter; sister-in-law: Sherry Strieter; numerous dear nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion: Kowalski.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents: Martin and Grace, and his little brother: Gerald “Gerry” Strieter.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation followed by a short service on Wednesday, June 3, at Haverstock Funeral Home in LaPorte, Indiana, from 11:00 AM–1:00 PM CST. Rick will be laid to rest beside family at Patton Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Polish Falcons Nest 564. Flowers are welcome, but those wishing to make a memorial donation may contribute toward planting a magnolia tree at the Strieters’ residence. Reach out to Mike or Erin to make a donation.
