Robert W. Kegebein

Robert W. Kegebein, age 83, of LaPorte, Indiana, and The Villages, Florida, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, July 22, 2026, at Northwest Health–La Porte.

Known affectionately as “Bob” to his family and friends, he was born on April 29, 1943, in LaPorte, Indiana, to the late Paul and Josephine (Bales) Kegebein. A lifelong connection to his hometown began with his graduation from LaPorte High School in 1961. Following high school, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy, an experience that reflected the dedication and strong work ethic he carried throughout his life.

On February 20, 1964, Bob married the love of his life, Mary Edwards, in LaPorte. Together, Bob and Mary shared 62 years of marriage, building a life filled with family, friendship, cherished traditions and countless memories. Their enduring partnership was at the heart of the life Bob treasured most.

Bob was a hardworking and dedicated Union Pipefitter with Local 597 out of Chicago for more than 39 years. After a long and successful career, he retired in 2005. In 2007, Bob and Mary began a new chapter together when they decided to split time between their LaPorte home and their new home in The Villages, FL making many new wonderful and lasting friendships.

More than anything, Bob loved and cherished his family. His greatest joy was found in the life he and Mary created together and in watching their family grow through the generations. He was deeply proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The memories they shared will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

Bob knew how to enjoy life and especially appreciated the simple pleasures that brought people together. He loved spending time on the golf course with his friends and could often be found working in his yard, taking tremendous pride in keeping it beautiful and well cared for. He was an enthusiastic sports fan who especially enjoyed football, faithfully cheering for the Chicago Bears. The Family Fantasy football league was another favorite pastime which gave Bob much enjoyment especially when choosing which rookies to draft.

Whether he was gathered around a table playing cards, watching a football game or visiting a favorite winery or brewery, Bob was happiest when surrounded by the people he cared about. He treasured the friendships he made throughout his life and the many good times shared with those closest to him.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Kegebein; two daughters, Robin L. Kegebein and Kelley L. Hamilton (Terry Quirk); his son, Steven P. Kegebein (Kelle

Cartwright);eight grandchildren, Steven Kegebein (Alison Beatty), Morgan Kegebein, Jake Kegebein, Nicholas Hamilton (Brooke), Brett Hamilton (Taylor), Brooke Kegebein, Taylor Creed (Cameron) and Tori Kegebein; two great-grandchildren, Tatum Hamilton and Emery Hamilton and a special fatherly bond with his nephew Randy Banic (Jeni); and three loving sisters, Beverly Grys, Betty Clark and Barbara Combs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Josephine Kegebein and one sister, Bonny Banic.

Bob will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a proud veteran, a loyal friend and a hardworking man who found his greatest happiness in the company of those he loved. Bob embraced the moments that made life meaningful. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured and the many wonderful memories that will continue to bring smiles to those who knew and loved him.
