Robert Perez

Robert “Bobby” Perez, age 74, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, August 7, 2026, at Settlers Place in LaPorte, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Bobby was born on February 18, 1952, in Santa Rosa, Texas, to the late Juan Perez and Maria Olivarez Perez. He grew up in Santa Rosa and graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1970. On January 1, 1983, he married the love of his life, Elaine Odle, in Santa Rosa. Together, Bobby and Elaine shared 43 years of marriage, building a life centered around love, family, faith, and devotion to one another.

A hardworking man throughout his life, Bobby believed in providing for his family and taking pride in an honest day’s work. For many years, he worked as a Field Manager for Bernacchi’s Farm Market, where he also served as an interpreter for many of the workers. His ability to bridge the language gap allowed him to help others feel understood and supported, a responsibility he took seriously. Bobby later worked for many years as the Produce Manager at 5-Star Grocery in LaPorte, where his strong work ethic and dependable nature were well known.

Above all else, Bobby was a family man. He worked hard throughout his life, but his greatest joy was found in the people he loved. He treasured time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren and was happiest simply being surrounded by family. In quieter moments, Bobby enjoyed fishing and working in his garden, appreciating the peace and satisfaction that came from spending time outdoors and watching the fruits of his labor grow.

Bobby was also an avid sports fan and especially loved cheering on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Dallas Cowboys. Whether watching a game or keeping up with his favorite teams, sports brought him many hours of enjoyment. Music was another pleasure in Bobby’s life, and he had a particular love for country music. A good country song and a football game from one of his favorite teams were among the simple things that could always bring a little extra enjoyment to his day.

Bobby will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, a man of faith, and an incredibly hard worker. His life was not measured by possessions or accolades, but by the family he loved, the work he faithfully performed, the people he helped along the way, and the lasting example he leaves behind. His steady presence and love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Elaine Perez; his children, R.J. Kaercher (Dawn), Shelley King (Darrick), Robin Jones (Gary), Rob Perez, and Carrie Langman (Donnie); and nine grandchildren, Jordyn Kaercher, Trent Kaercher (Kasi), Jasmine King, Alexa King, Lydia King, Carter Jones, Carly Jones, Taila Langman, and Donovan Langman; three brothers, Daniel “Danny” (San Juana), Manuel (Dulia) and Pablo (Irma); three sisters, Alicia, Juana and Josie.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Ninfa, Benita, Oralia, Rita and Elvira, and one brother, Juan Enrique.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 11 at 1:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 220 Crescent Drive, LaPorte. A visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Mill Creek, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bobby’s memory to The LaPorte Little Theater, 218 “A” Street, LaPorte, IN 46350, or to the LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter, 2855 IN Highway 2, LaPorte, IN 46350.

Bobby leaves behind a legacy rooted in faith, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught through the way he lived, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely will remain in the hearts of his family for generations to come.
